Albite is a plagioclase feldspar mineral occurring in granitic and pegmatite masses. It was first reported in 1815 for an occurrence in Finnbo, Sweden and was named after the Latin word albus, which means white and describes the color of the stone. Albite is used commercially in ceramics but it is also used as a gemstone.
