Cerussite is a lead carbonate (PbCO3) and an important lead ore. Usually found in the oxidized zone of lead ore deposits, it is a very common weathering product of Galena and other lead ore minerals. Its name comes from the Latin word "cerussa", which means white lead. 

Cerussite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and is isomorphous with Aragonite. Like Aragonite it is very frequently twinned, the compound crystals being pseudo-hexagonal in form. It can be colorless, white, gray, light yellow, or brown and is easily identifiable by its heavy weight, brilliant luster, and crystal habits. Read More...
